  Few facts and figures about the Atlantic Ocean.

• The Atlantic ocean is the second largest ocean of the world.It covers approximately one fifth of the earth's surface.

• It is the youngest of all the oceans.It is said that it was formed during the Jurassic Period.

• The total area of the ocean is about 76.765 sq.km.

• The total area of the Atlantic Ocean is slightly less than 6.5 times the size of the USA.

•  It's coastal line is about 116867 kms long.

• Equator subdivides the Atlantic Ocean in to two.The North Atlantic Ocean and The South Atlantic Ocean.

• The water temperature of the ocean is warmer near the equator.

•  The Atlantic Ocean forms "S"shaped basin running from north to south.Europe and Africa are on the east and North and South America are on the west.In the north it is connected with the Arctic Ocean.In the south west it is connected with the Pacific Ocean.It is connected with the Indian Ocean in the south east.It extends in the south and is then connected with the Antarctica.

• The earth is 4.6 billion years old.The Atlantic is not as old as the earth is.The Atlantic Ocean is said to be 135-150 million years old.

      • East pacific or eastern pacific is in the western hemisphere.
